Edinburgh weather: Met Office predicts exact time heavy rain will hit capital today

The Met Office has predicted the exact time Edinburgh can expect rain today.

After temperatures hitting above average for September, Edinburgh locals have woken up to cooler mornings this week.

October is just round the corner and it's time to start thinking about digging out the big jumpers and coats for Halloween.

Monday September 27, saw heavy rain hit the capital, marking the end to the summer as temperatures were hitting 19 degrees at the weekend.

And according to the Met Office, the rain is here to stay with showers scattered throughout the week.

Weather forecasters predict that by 12pm today, dark clouds will cast over Edinburgh with 40 percent chance of rain, that will turn heavy by 2pm.

Later in the afternoon at 3pm, the dark clouds look like they will stay and with 80 percent chance of heavy rain, the capital will certainly feel more like autumn.

The Met Office reports: "Mainly dry in the morning with some sunshine. Showers developing in the afternoon, occasionally heavy, these expected to merge into some longer outbreaks of rain across the Lothians and Borders. Maximum Temperature 15 degrees celsius."

Looking towards Wednesday, Edinburgh is expected to be drier and clearer with sunny outbreaks. But with temperatures only reaching 13 degrees, and feeling 10 at the highest, the city will be waking up to a crisp autumn morning.

Heavy rain will ascend over the city first thing on Thursday morning, turning into showers through the afternoon and cloudy in the evening.

Marking the start of October on Friday, Edinburgh locals are predicted to wake up to showers at 7am that will turn into sunny intervals by late morning. However between 1pm and 4pm, showers are forecasted to break out.

Looking through the weekend , the Met Office say: "Quite an unsettled end to the week with rain and strong winds on Thursday morning, brighter later. Outbreaks of rain on Friday and Saturday and staying breezy."
