Edinburgh weather: Met Office issue yellow warning for snow in the Lothians

East Lothian and Midlothian are to be hit with heavy snow and ice tonight following a yellow Met Office warning.

The heavy snow is expected to narrowly miss the capital but some light snow has already been spotted by locals tonight.

Edinburgh could also be pelted by hail showers and wind, with lows of minus two according to BBC Weather.

Most of the East Coast of Scotland is now under a yellow weather warning until 10am tomorrow morning, with the Met Office warning of "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces." and "icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths" in the affected areas.

The Met Office warning (Met Office)

The Met Office said in a statement: "Ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces during Monday night, especially where showers move well inland.

"Some of the showers will be wintry and could produce 2 to 5 cm lying snow above 250 metres, mostly over the Pennines and North York Moors where up to 10 cm is possible.
