Edinburgh weather: Met Office issue ice and snow warning as cold snap coming this week

A weather warning has been issued as a bout of cold weather could bring snow and ice to Edinburgh and the Lothians this week.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning, starting from 9pm on Wednesday to 10am on Thursday.

Drivers could face icy roads on Thursday morning and there may be some travel disruption as a result.

There could be some snow falling on higher ground on Wednesday night. It will be fairly rainy throughout Wednesday and quite windy on Thursday.

Temperatures will feel around -4C on Thursday morning.

The Met Office says: "Showers are expected across the northwest of the UK from Wednesday evening onwards, these falling as sleet and snow even to low levels at times away from exposed coasts.

"Some accumulations of snow are expected, mostly above around 150 m where more than 2cm is likely in places.

"In addition an area of rain will move across parts of southern Scotland and northern England on Wednesday evening, again with some snow possible but this mostly above 200m.

"Surfaces will remain wet from this rain and the showers with icy stretches expected to form."
