Edinburgh weather: Met Office gives update as sunshine to hit city this weekend

Edinburgh will be graced with sunshine this weekend while flood warning have been issued to parts of Scotland.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency issued flood alerts to the east of Scotland, including Dundee and Angus, and Aberdeen.

Luckily, Edinburgh's grey cloudy skies will clear by 3pm today on March 12, and the sun will creep out from behind the clouds to brighten the evening.

As we go further into March, and closer to the official day of Spring, the time of sunset has been moving forward.

Today the sun will set at 6.09pm.

The Met Office adds: "A cloudy start with early morning rain gradually clearing north. Then some brighter spells, but showers from mid to late morning. Showers then dying out at the end of the day. Maximum temperature 11 °C."

If you're wanting to get stuck into some spring cleaning, Sunday is set to be brighter with the sun breaking out from at early as 10am.

And with the temperature rising to 10C by 12pm and 11C by 1pm, it will be the perfect time to get through a load of washing.

The Met Office also has given a forecast for the week ahead.

From March 16 to Friday 25, the Met Office forecasts for the UK: "On Wednesday, a band of rain will erratically move east, with drier weather either side, and feeling warm in the sunshine in the southeast. Here, some mist and fog patches are likely early on inland, and some low cloud around the east coast.

"Thereafter, the weather front should slowly clear away with high pressure building. Temperatures mild to very mild for most, but cooler air could reach the far east through the weekend.

"Some low cloud is likely around North Sea coasts. The sunniest weather is expected to be in the south and east, with the risk of some overnight frost and fog. There is a lower likelihood of wind and rain pushing into western areas at times."
