Edinburgh weather: Ice warning as city to be hit with snow showers and sleet

Edinburgh residents have been making the most of the snow during the festive holidays, with many taking to the likes of Arthur's Seat to go sledging, or for a wintry walk.

After two days of rain in the capital, the snow is expected to return as temperatures are set to plummet as low as -3C by Friday.

According to the Met Office, the mercury will drop to minus one over the next two days. Light snow will begin to fall tonight and carry on into Thursday, with sleet showers also forecast.

There are also yellow weather warnings in place across much of Edinburgh and the Lothians this morning until 11am, with icy surfaces set to cause difficult travel conditions in places.

Forecasters also warn of some injuries from slips and falls on the icy surfaces, as well as icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The Met Office says: "A bright and cold day with some sunny spells, although patchy mist and freezing fog patches possible. Ice will affect some untreated surfaces and winds will be light. Maximum temperature 2 °C.
