Edinburgh weather: Further warnings issued as ice and rain forecast for capital

Additional weather warnings have been issued for Edinburgh across this weekend as chilly conditions continue.

After a week of heavy snow, ice warnings have been set out by the Met Office for throughout Saturday and Sunday, with another snow warning forecast for East Lothian.

In the last 24 hours, stronger winds have caused a number of snow drifts on higher ground, with a number of ploughs and gritters now deployed to clear the roads once again.

As a lot of snow and ice remains from the conditions earlier this week, Saturday's forecast has predicted some sunny spells for Edinburgh, however some sleet will push through from the west in the afternoon.

Temperatures will also remain low, with the city to sit at an average of -1C for most of the day.

Sunday will be a much milder day, with temperatures expected to hit highs of around 6C, seeing some of the snow beginning to melt around the city.

However, further outbreaks of sleet and snow or freezing rain is also forecast, with ice warnings issued across the capital and its outskirts.

Winds will also pick up from the southwest, bringing some slightly milder gusts.

The weather warning for ice will end on Sunday (February 14), with the forecast for the coming week to bring milder temperatures and calmer conditions.
