Edinburgh weather forecast as beer gardens set to pack out for Scotland clash

All good things must come to an end at some point and after the hottest day of the year on Sunday, it’s back down to earth for the Capital this week with cooler temperatures and the rain set to return.

The mercury soared to more than 25 degrees in some parts of Edinburgh on a glorious weekend which saw hundreds of locals make a beeline for Portobello Beach to soak up the rays.

With Scotland’s men’s side making their return to the international tournament stage on Monday, beer gardens across the city are at capacity, but it will be significantly cooler for those taking in the game outdoors.

The Czech Republic visit Hampden as Steve Clarke's men play their first major tournament game since 1998.

According to the Met Office, temperatures will peak at 17 in time for kick off at 2pm but a strong westerly wind might make it feel slightly colder.

It should nonetheless remain dry with a maximum ten per cent chance of precipitation, however the same cannot be said for the rest of the week.

Wednesday and Thursday bring a far-higher chance of rain, though temperatures are set to rise slightly to around 18 degrees.

Friday and Saturday will remain dry, but cloudy and with a maximum of about 16.

Forecasters said: "Monday will be a fine, dry day with bright and sunny spells, these most frequent to the east of the M74.

"Temperatures well down from yesterday's highs in the east with fresh westerly winds and a maximum temperature of 17 °C.

"Wednesday to Friday will be mainly dry through the outlook period with occasional bright and sunny spells.

"However some chance of rain affecting the east coast for a time early Wednesday and early Thursday."
