Edinburgh weather: Exact time thunderstorms will hit the capital with heavy downpours

On Sunday (July 4) Edinburgh was subject to a battering from an afternoon thunderstorm and the flash-flooding that came with it.

Images and clips taken from all over the city showed drains bursting, homes flooding and businesses suffering severe water damage after the rain came on suddenly.

However, weather forecasters have confirmed yet another storm is due to arrive exactly one week on from the torrential front, with heavy rain predicted once again.

According to the Met Office, Sunday (July 11) will see very mild temperatures from the start of the day, hitting highs of around 18 degrees.

Despite feeling warm the sky will stay overcast but dry throughout the morning, with rain showers due to start in Edinburgh from around 11am.

The worst of the storm is due to hit at around 12 midday, with thundery rain to break out across the city and into the Lothians for at least an hour or two.

After the initial downpour, the sky is expected to clear a little with small rays of sun breaking through, before the rain returns again later in the afternoon.

A forecast from the Met Office added: "Scattered thundery showers breaking out this time more so across Lothian and Borders, with much of southwest staying dry."

After the storm passes, it looks as if Edinburgh should see some brighter conditions in the following days, with scattered cloud and sunshine.

Temperatures are also set to increase, with highs of 21 and 22 degrees celsius to arrive next week.
