Edinburgh weather: Exact time thunderstorms will hit as Met Office yellow warning issued

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Edinburgh, with thunderstorms forecast to sweep over the city.

After two days of tremendous sunshine and highs of around 26 degrees, it appears the short heatwave will be coming to a quick end on Thursday (September 9).

With Wednesday setting records for the hottest September day in years, heavy rain is set to move in and bring the capital back to normality.

According to the Met Office, the yellow warning will be in place from 10am to 8pm on Thursday, with warnings also in place across the rest of Scotland.

Thursday is forecast to start off dry with highs of around 16 degrees, before lighter rain showers begin at 1pm. These will get a little heavier but will become lighter again from around 3/4pm.

The thunderstorm itself is due to arrive at 5pm, with heavy showers and thunder expected across the city.

This is expected to carry on well into the evening, with conditions only set to ease at around 10pm. The rain however will continue into the early hours of the morning.

Friday (September 10) is set to be a lot drier and slightly warmer with highs of 19 degrees, but will be nothing on the sunny conditions experienced earlier in the week.

The day will be mostly cloudy however some sunnier spells will arrive later on in the evening.
