Edinburgh weather: Exact time city will be battered by heavy rain

The exact time Edinburgh will be battered by heavy rain has been predicted by weather experts.

It's been mostly dry with sunny spells over the festive period, but the capital is set for downpours this week as the Met Office forecasts when rain will hit the city.

It will continue to be blue skies scattered with clouds this afternoon remaining mostly cloudy and mainly dry with a little rain at first across East Lothian.

Temperatures today are staying around 5c right into Tuesday evening with temperatures dropping in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The start of Wednesday remains dry until rain hits the capital from 9am with heavy showers and a 90% chance of rain at 11am that will continue into the afternoon.

The showers will hit Edinburgh throughout Wednesday pouring from 9am until 4pm with the dreich weather spreading quickly across the city and Lothians.

The showers will begin to disperse around 5pm clearing up with the evening set to be cloudy but dry continuing into Thursday with temperatures hitting a high of 11c later in the day.

Friday morning starts with showers but should clear up just before lunchtime with Hogmanay set to be a dry and a warm evening for this time of year if anyone is heading out to celebrate.

The clear spell leads into a windy but dry start to the New Year with cloudy skies and a high of 12c on Saturday afternoon.
