Edinburgh weather: Dramatic footage shows Stockbridge shops and cars submerged in flood water

The Stockbridge area of Edinburgh has been described as being ‘underwater’ after dramatic footage emerged of shops and cars in the area submerged by flooding.

A shocking video shows alarms going off at Raeburn Place and cars struggling through flooding as a thick stream of water flows through the area.

There are concerns that local businesses may have been damaged by the severe flooding, with one resident saying they had never seen anything like it.

The Stockbridge resident said: “My timeline is full of Edinburgh residents saying they’ve never seen flooding like this in Stockbridge.

“I grew up here and definitely can’t remember it happening before. Really feel for the business owners.”

The news comes as Edinburgh basement homes in the same area were badly flooded by dramatic storms in Edinburgh this evening.

A video sent to Edinburgh Live by local Micheal, who was out walking his dog on Royal Crescent in the city’s New Town, shows water pouring into basement homes.

In the video, water can be seen gushing down the stairs of cellar-level flats, with an eyewitness telling Edinburgh Live that people were frantically trying to protect their devastated homes.

The Stockbridge Tap pub also announced that they would have to close because of heavy flooding.

They said: “Sadly folks we've had to close for the evening due to some pretty heavy flooding in the cellar. Reopen on Tuesday as normal.

“Don't worry, the beer is safe and sound, just don't fancy getting the electrics all wet! See you next Tuesday."
