Edinburgh weather: Commuters warned of 'hazardous' ice as yellow weather warning is issued

Commuters are being warned to take care with icy patches making the roads and pavements "hazardous".

The Met Office has now issued a yellow weather warning for ice across Edinburgh and the Lothians - running from 8pm on Monday night until 10am today.

If you're heading out, forecasters are warning to take extra when driving or walking and even suggest to consider not cycling.

While the mercury is set to rise to around four degrees by 12pm, there are further wintry showers forecast this afternoon.

The Met Office say travel disruption is expected on the roads and railways, as well with longer journey times likely.

They add that there is an increased chance of injuries and accidents on icy pavements and cycle paths due to hazardous conditions.

The Met Office said: "East mainly dry with best of weak winter sunshine in eastern Borders. Maximum temperature 6 °C."

The latest spell of ice comes off the back of Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, which saw the Queensferry Crossing close for over a day and disastrous flooding hit towns and villages in the Scottish Borders.

Meanwhile, on Friday gusty winds saw the roof trolley shelter blown clean off in a Morrisons car park and yet another weather warning was issued for snow in Edinburgh on Monday.

It seems that winter certainly isn't ready to give up just yet.
