Edinburgh weather: city to suffer sub zero temperatures before 'snow bomb' hits

Following a mild Hogmanay and New Year's Day, the weather is set to turn significantly colder in Edinburgh next week.

The temperature will remain consistently above 10 degrees Celsius across Friday and Saturday, and will be around 11C when 2022 is rung in.

According to the Met Office, things will cool down slightly on Sunday, with temperatures hovering below 10C for most of the day.

There will be brief sunny intervals but overall it will be a predominantly cloudy day in the city for the most part.

Monday looks to be a similar story, with only a brief sunny spell at around 9 in the morning before the clouds set in for the remainder of the day.

It will also also continue to get colder, with temperatures gradually falling throughout the day to a nadir of 4C by 9pm.

The rest of the week is set to be similarly cold, with temperatures remaining consistently below 5C.

Tuesday looks to be the coldest day the week, reaching lows of -1C.

It is also expected to get wetter in the city, with light rain predicted on Wednesday before turning to heavy rain on Thursday.

It comes as WX Charts shared its weather charts for the middle part of the first month of the year.

Heavy snow is anticipated nationwide, with 11ins is expected in higher parts of Scotland, while 4cm may be found in Edinburgh.
