Edinburgh weather: City set for sunniest week of the year amid heat plume

Taps aff weather could be on the horizon sooner than you think, with Scotland set for the sunniest week of the year so far, according to forecasters.

Temperatures could rise to 21C by the end of the month and blue skies anticipated for most across the week - including in Edinburgh.

Highs are to ease to 13C midweek but the Met Office said temperatures will warm up again by the weekend with 17C on the cards in areas of Scotland, reports the Daily Record.

Scots are also being told they could be looking forward to a scorching May thanks to a 500 mile-wide continental heat plume, which is ideal as beer gardens reopen next week.

Up to 21C in Scotland is forecast for the end of April and into May by The Weather Outlook, amid a 500 mile-wide continental heat plume.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Computer models show a lot dry weather now, then warmer spells in late April and into May seeing up to 21C possible in Scotland.”

A Met Office forecaster said: “Temperatures recover on Monday and most areas will feel warm by the afternoon.

“After some rain on Tuesday, most will be fine and dry to the weekend, with high pressure dominating and temperatures probably warming slightly by the weekend.

“Plenty of sunny spells are expected into May, with the possibility of warmer spells.”

What's the weather in Edinburgh?

According to the Met Office, temperatures are to reach 15C today with clouds to clear for sunny intervals this afternoon. Heavy rain is forecast on Tuesday when temperatures will take a dip before rising again to 13C on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the weekend is looking promising as the mercury isn't set to dip below ten degrees on Saturday and Sunday, with more sunshine on the cards.

Here's hoping the good weather will continue into next week as hospitality reopens on April 26, along with further non-essential retail, gyms and much more.
