Edinburgh weather: City set for scorcher while parts of UK hit with 'blood rain'

Edinburgh will avoid the UK-wide storms and 'blood rain' this weekend as the Met Office predicts sunshine and high temperatures for the city.

The capital is set for scorching temperatures this weekend reaching highs of 18 degrees on Saturday.

The lowest temperature that can be seen this week is a steady 15C which creeps up close to the twenties next week again.

While Scots in the capital grab for the sun cream the rest of the UK seems to be in a different predicament.

As a yellow thunderstorm warning was issued in parts of England from Wednesday evening, the Met office has warned that “blood rain” may fall in parts of the UK as well.

“Blood rain” is a phenomenon that occurs when dust from the Sahara desert is blown across Europe mixing with heavy rain which gives a red tinge to the downpour.

According to the Met office this dust mixed rain is seen a few times a year in the UK. Streets and cars are often covered with the red rainfall which explains its suitable name.

The Southeast of England has been warned of thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning throughout the week and into the weekend.
