Edinburgh weather: Capital to enjoy Saharan sunshine before downpours next week

A Saharan dust plume is set to bring warmer temperatures to Edinburgh today, after weeks of rain and snow.

Sunshine is forecast throughout the day, with temperatures rising to a 9C in the mid afternoon before sunset at 6pm.

The odd shower may be possible, the Met Office weather forecasters warned,

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “For the past week the UK has been in a very cold airmass with temperatures well below average.

"This will change through the weekend as milder air moves in."

Heading into Monday, the Met Office said: "It will be dry and bright with some sunny spells. After a chilly start it will feel pleasant in any sunshine, winds light to moderate from the southwest. Maximum temperature 10 °C."
