Edinburgh weather: Capital to be hotter than Venice next week as heatwave set to continue

Edinburgh is set to be hotter than some locations across Europe this week as the capital's heatwave continues.

After weeks of wet and rainy conditions, the city will be rewarded with some pretty glorious days over the next week, with temperatures reaching as high as 20 degrees at points.

Beginning on Thursday (May 27), a large area of high pressure is forecast to park itself over the UK, bringing clearer skies and much warmer air from the south with it.

This will see Edinburgh and other cities across the country experience a sudden surge in temperature, with those winter jackets finally able to be hung up and put away.

Although slightly cloudier on Thursday and Friday, temperatures will sit somewhere in the mid-teens, before rising again on Saturday, where highs of 18 degrees are predicted.

Then, the real factor 50 weather will begin on Sunday (May 30), with highs of 20 degrees forecast alongside sunny spells.

With wind speeds to be next to nothing you will definitely be able to feel the heat, with the following Monday and Tuesday also expected to keep up the high temperatures.

In fact, Edinburgh is set to be just slightly warmer than the beautiful Italian city of Venice on Monday, so where would you rather be?

The following week is also looking good, with a mixture of sunshine and and cloud predicted by both the MetOffice and BBC Weather, as well as temperatures staying solidly in the high teens, if not higher.

A long range forecast for May 31 until June 9 by the Met Office also looks promising, stating:

"Warm, settled conditions are likely to persist across many areas during early next week. There is the potential for outbreaks of rain to arrive across parts of the northwest on Monday but it is then very uncertain how far south and east more unsettled conditions develop during next week.

"Whilst there is still likely to be a good deal of dry weather, showers, which could be heavy, become more likely across the south and west during the latter part of next week. Temperatures most likely remaining around or above average."
