Edinburgh weather: Capital to be hotter than Sicily as temperatures soar to 21 degrees on Wednesday

Edinburgh is facing scorching weather on Wednesday 20 May, with a mini-heatwave set to send thermometers soaring to 21 degrees. In contrast, the beautiful holiday island of Sicily will only be 20 degrees on the same day.

Although the start of this week will be a bit grey and drizzly, a sustained period of high pressure means Edinburgh will enjoy some May sunshine on Wednesday with temperatures hitting 21, and Thursday will be slightly less hot but still pleasant with highs of 19.

This will make Wednesday the hottest day of the year in the capital so far.

Making their predictions for the period Tuesday May 19 to Thursday May 28 for the whole of the UK, the Met Office say: "To start the period, high pressure should dominate with most parts of the UK seeing largely fine and dry conditions, with variable cloud and bright or sunny spells.

"The far north/northwest may turn less settled with a greater chance of cloudier skies, outbreaks of rain and stronger winds at times here.

"Temperatures look to take an upward trend over the next two weeks with most areas becoming warm, especially in the south and east.

In short, it sounds like this week will be a good time to get some vitamin D either in your garden or during your daily exercise, but be sure to use sunscreen and take care.
