Edinburgh weather: Capital to be hotter than Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday as heatwave returns

Edinburgh is set to have another blast of warmer air as temperatures make their way back above 20 degrees once again.

July had brought roasting conditions for the capital, with highs of around 26C and beautiful sunshine covering the entire city with a summertime glow.

However, the last week has seen much cooler fronts make their way up the country, bringing grey and cloudy skies as well as a thunderstorm and heavy showers.

Now, it seems as if Edinburgh may be heading for yet another warm phase, with Tuesday (August 3) to experience highs of 21 degrees, making it hotter than Rio de Janeiro.

According to recent forecasts, Monday (August 2) will bring highs of around 19C, with sunshine finally breaking back through the heavy cloud that has been parked over the city in recent days.

Winds will also only be light breezes on Monday, with overnight temperatures into Tuesday only dipping to around 11C.

Tuesday will see what may be the best of the warmer temperatures, with predictions stating there will be highs of 21C and long sunny intervals throughout the day.

Wednesday is also forecast to have similar highs, however sadly they may feel a little more sticky and muggy, with rain showers forecast for the afternoon.

Showers are also expected throughout the remainder of the week, with highs of around 19/20C to continue.
