Edinburgh weather: Capital to be battered by heavy rain before temperatures plummet

Edinburgh is set to be hit with heavy rain before temperatures plummet.

Weather forecasters predict that snow could fall on high grounds in Scotland towards the end of the month and into December.

However before that Edinburgh will continue to welcome temperatures hitting double figures for the rest of week although heavy rain is forecasted.

On Friday November 12, the city is expected to be battered by a downpour for most of the morning and showers will ease slightly at 11am, according to BBC weather.

However light rain will continue throughout the day with the sun trying to peak through the grey clouds and southwesterly winds with gusts up to 26 mph.

Temperatures are expected to hit highs of 12 degrees while only dropping to 6 during the night.

The weekend is predicted just to be cloudy and the following week, temperatures will drop as we get closer to winter, Met Office reports.

Next week Edinburgh will only reach up 7 degrees celsius at the most during the day and at night it will drop to just 4 degrees.

Looking across to November 15-December 24, the Met Office reports the outlook for the UK.

They said: "Remaining changeable and autumnal particularly to the north through the start of this period as low-pressure systems dominate, sometimes accompanied by rain and strong winds. Elsewhere while rain is possible at times, drier and brighter conditions are more likely in the south and southeast regions, although some rain will likely reach even here at times. Morning fog patches are also possible in these regions during this period.

"A rather cold start to the period will likely be followed by a brief recovery in temperatures, before possible trend down later on in the month. This would bring an increasing chance of some wintry conditions, mainly over the higher ground in the north, but with a slight risk to lower levels."
