Edinburgh weather: Capital temperatures soar, making it hotter than Sydney

Okay, so it may be winter in Australia but that doesn't stop us feeling smug that it's hotter in Edinburgh today than it is in Sydney.

Temperatures are to soar in the capital on this sunny Saturday as the mercury is set to rise to a toasty 19 degrees by 3pm.

Meanwhile, Sydney is only 12 degrees - which could be reason enough to crack open a beer, right?

It may not be the blistering heat we've had in past weekends but clear blue skies are making it the perfect beach weather for those heading to the seaside.

If you are heading out, there's no need to bring an umbrella for any expected downpours - which makes a huge change after a very soggy start to the week.

Met Officer forecasters say it will be a "dry day with sunny spells and easterly winds" and "will feel warm or very warm for most, but a little cooler along the east coast".

But this mini heatwave is only set to last for one day, so it's best to make the most of it as temperatures are set to drop again tomorrow.

The last heat surge brought trouble to the capital and police have warned that they will be upping patrols at Portobello and the Meadows looking out for trouble-makers.
