Edinburgh weather: 50mph winds and heavy rain as two storms to hit Scotland

Edinburgh has been told to prepare for heavy rain and high winds, as two major storms look set to hit the capital within the next week.

More autumnal weather will bring in some showers at the start of the week.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “It looks more autumnal after a settled start to the week.

“Forecast models show potentially very blustery and wet conditions on Thursday, in particular for the North and East, with another wet and windy episode at the weekend.”

Ex-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: “The weather is about to change gear, turning cooler, wetter and windier.”

“Thursday and Friday look like seeing much of the UK receiving windy conditions and showers or rain, with coastal gales likely in the North-West.

“More strong winds and outbreaks of rain are expected from the weekend onwards in the North-West.”

According to the latest BBC Weather forecast, "On Tuesday, it will be cloudy to the west with a few spells of light rain, but eastern areas will have sunshine.

"It will become very breezy, and a band of rain will arrive from the northwest overnight.

"Wednesday will see the band of rain clear to the southeast, but frequent showers will then push in from the west.

"Thursday will be unsettled with outbreaks of heavy rain likely."
