Edinburgh weather: Big freeze forecast for coming days as temperatures take a dip

Edinburgh is set for cooler temperatures this week as a cold front makes its way over the city.

From Monday (March 1), conditions are set to be bright and sunny, with some occasional cloud and highs of around 9C.

However, as the week progresses, some more wintry showers and heavier cloud are forecast to hang over the capital, with the worst of it predicted to arrive on Thursday.

The end of the week will also see temperatures drop, especially overnight, with lows of around -1C or -2C expected in the early hours of the morning.

This may bring some frost, with gritters expected to be out on the roads towards the end of the week.

With some more grizzly weather predicted for Thursday, by Friday and Saturday temperatures will remain a little cooler, however lighter cloud and occasional bright spells are also forecast.

The Met Office has also mentioned the slight chance of some very light snow showers at the weekend, but none that will cause any large disruption.

The forecast for Friday onwards added:

"With the high (pressure) most likely centred over Scotland, this will bring a cold northerly air flow and a possibility of light sleet and snow flurries for a time into northern and eastern coasts.

"Otherwise most areas will stay fine and dry with plenty of sunny spells."
