Edinburgh weather: 'Big freeze' coming as further snow and ice headed for the city

Edinburgh is predicted to see further freezing conditions next month as a cold front sweeps the UK.

The city has already seen a large amount of snowfall and ice in recent weeks, with similar weather set to return.

Currently, milder temperatures and rain are forecast for the rest of the week, however this is set to change as we approach the end of the month.

According to the Met Office long range predictions, low pressure systems moving further south than usual will see "below-average temperatures" for February.

This is then set to bring snow, sleet and icy conditions for most of the month.

The forecast states: "There remains the potential for significant snowfall along the boundary between colder air to the north, and the milder air in the south, with the greatest risk across central and northern areas.

"Through this period there is a greater than average chance of cold spells spreading across the whole UK at times with the associated risk of wintry hazards."

Earlier this month, the wintery weather saw traffic and travel disruptions as well as a host of different weather warnings.

Residents were also advised to be extra cautious when walking, to avoid any slips and trips on the ice as A&E waiting times continued to rise.
