Edinburgh weather: BBC and Met Office reveal capital's next warmest days to come in August

The Met Office and BBC have shared the warmest and sunniest days for Edinburgh as the capital braced themselves for a heatwave.

Scorching sun and bright blue skies were expected to flow into Scotland from Portugal as reports of an 'African plume' excited Scots.

However, it doesn't look like Edinburgh will quite get the heatwave they wanted but there are still some sunny days ahead, starting from tomorrow (August 18).

According to BBC weather, Saturday August 21 could hit highs of 20 degrees but with light showers throughout the day.

However, Met Office reports that the day will be cloudy and only reaching 18 degrees.

So it won't be a bad idea to wear layers and take an umbrella if you choose to head to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the weekend.

From Sunday to Tuesday, according to BBC weather Edinburgh will see more cloud but still warm, although Met Office reports that Sunday will offer sunny intervals in the afternoon.

On Wednesday August 25 however, the sun is set to break through with temperatures hitting 19 degrees.

After that although BBC reports that the warm temperatures are set to stay at 19, it is forecasted to rain for the rest of the week.

For the long forecast, according to Met Office covering August 31 - September 14: "Confidence is very low during this period. A northwest to southeast split is most likely. Showers or longer spells of rain, together with strong winds, may affect northwestern areas, with these conditions spreading southeast to other parts of the UK at times.

"Any more prolonged dry and settled weather is most likely in the southeast. Temperatures are expected to be near average, perhaps warmer in the south and east."
