Edinburgh weather as Met Office issues yellow warning for heavy rain

Edinburgh has been issued a yellow weather warning today by the Met Office.

Heavy rain is set to continue to pour across the city after localised flooding was spotted yesterday (October 28).

Weather warnings have been issued across Scotland, with the borders announcing a major incident and closing schools after water levels began to rise.

Following on this morning, two bridges in Annan have been washed away.

Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued a flood alert for Edinburgh while flood warnings have also been put in place throughout Scotland.

The yellow weather warning is in place until 3pm today.

Heavy rain is forecasted to fall through the day and according to the Met Office, it will become lighter by 5pm before stopping at 6pm.

What does yellow weather warning mean?

A yellow weather warning highlights that disruption may be caused by rain.

Met Office warns: "Rain, heavy in places, may lead to some disruption due to flooding on Friday."

The weather forecasters also explain what locals should expect with a yellow weather warning for Edinburgh.

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible

Looking through to Halloween weekend, the Met Office forecasts a dry Saturday but showers over Sunday and heavy times.

They say: "Rain at first on Saturday, then mainly dry and bright. Widespread rain, sometimes heavy, developing on Sunday. Occasional rain on Monday, chilly northwesterly winds."
