Edinburgh weather as Met Office issues update as temperatures plummet to feel like 0 degrees

Edinburgh can expect to feel the bitterly cold start to winter as the Met Office has issued a weather update.

After a mild autumn, November is expected to bring in cold air from the Arctic bringing potential snowfall on high grounds.

This means Edinburgh will be feeling the bite as temperatures are forecasted to plummet in the night.

For Wednesday night, Met Office say: "Many areas will have a dry and cold night with lengthy clear periods. The Berwickshire coast will be breezy with some cloud at times. Some patchy frost. Minimum temperature -1 °C."

On Thursday November 4, Edinburgh will see lows of four degrees celsius, but will feel like zero, with the Met Office warning that some parts of Lothian and the Borders could even see -1 degrees tonight (Wednesday November 3).

The Met Office have warned of 'patchy frost collecting' through the night.

This is expected from the 'Arctic plume' that is descending on Scotland this week and Edinburgh locals will feel the sharp chill that comes along with it.

With sunny intervals, Thursday is expected to feel crisp with temperatures in Edinburgh feeling bitterly cold at four degrees but Met Office warns it will feel like zero up until 9am where it will slowly increase through the late morning.

But it isn't expected to get any higher than 7 degrees between 12-4pm. And even then it will only feel somewhere between four and five degrees.

Moving onto Friday and the weekend, temperatures are forecasted to rise a little to double figures and the plume moves away from Scotland.

Reaching 11 on Friday, 12 on Saturday, 10 on Sunday and Monday, and back to 12 on Tuesday, the cloud is expected to keep some of that warmth in.

But BBC weather predicts rainfall for the following week and Met Office warns of stormy and unsettled conditions.

Met Office's long range UK forecast for November fourth to 16 is: "Blustery showers are likely in the far north and northeast at the start of the period, but these quickly clearing. Otherwise, plenty of fine, dry weather with long spells of sunshine. Rain and thicker cloud will then steadily encroach from the west and northwest.

"Through the week beginning the 8th, areas of low pressure lying to the north or northwest of the UK will bring unsettled conditions predominantly affecting the north and west, with some heavy rain and strong winds followed by cooler, more showery interludes. The driest and brightest weather is likely to be in the southeast where rain bands will often be weak. Temperatures generally around average thorough this period, although brief cold spells possible."
