Edinburgh weather as fog and mist expected to cover capital in cold weekend

After a relatively mild week, the weather is set to turn colder this weekend in Edinburgh.

Temperatures will remain below 10 degrees Celsius on Friday, falling from a high of 7C at 2pm throughout the remainder of the day to a low of 4C at 11pm.

According to the Met Office, there will be "some spells of sunshine through the day" but also "areas of fog and low cloud lingering into the afternoon in places".

Saturday will be a bright but cold day in the city, with temperatures lingering around 3C for much of the morning before warming up slightly in the afternoon as the sun comes out.

Although it will be a clear night, fog will begin to fall over Edinburgh in the early hours of Sunday and will hang around for much of the morning and early afternoon.

At around 3pm, the fog will turn to mist, and by the early evening skies will be overcast.

It will be a similar story early next week, with the Met Office stating it will be "mainly dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunshine".

The weather service also said that it will continue to be "somewhat colder than of late" heading into Christmas.
