Edinburgh weather as capital set to warm up in sunshine and warmer temperatures

After a mostly dull and grey week in Edinburgh, the sun is set to come out later on Thursday.

Although temperatures are set to plummet to near-freezing later in the week, today looks to be a mostly mild one in the city.

According to the Met Office, it will be "a mainly dry day with variable amounts of cloud and some spells of sunshine".

Following brief bursts of sun in the late morning, the clouds are set to dissipate at around 1pm.

After this, Edinburgh can expect to enjoy between two-to-three hours of sunshine this afternoon, before the clouds begin to return after sunset.

Temperatures will steadily rise throughout the morning and early afternoon, reaching a peak of 11 degrees Celsius at around 1pm.

After this, the mercury will fall gradually throughout the remainder of the afternoon and evening, hitting a relatively mild low of 8C at 9pm.

Tomorrow looks set to be a similar story, with brief moments of sun poking through the clouds, though temperatures will continue to fall.
