Edinburgh Waverley 'afternoon tea' tours on world's most luxurious train for £215

Edinburgh locals are being offered afternoon tea onboard the world’s most luxurious train, Northern Belle, for £215.

The famous Northern Belle was designed in the style of the Orient Express and was once used by the royal family.

Passengers can pay thousands of pounds for land tours on the train, travelling on the old train by day and stopping off at luxury hotels at night.

The leisure service operates tours across the UK and now they are offering a Classic Afternoon Tea service from Edinburgh on board the train for a whopping £215.

Passengers will be picked up from Edinburgh Waverley at 1:10pm and will return to the station by 7:20pm.

The round trip starts with a welcome drink on arrival, followed by the traditional afternoon tea, with sandwiches and cakes, whilst strolling musicians walk up and down the carriages and a magician visits each table.

Despite seeming expensive at £215 the Northern Belle sell out the exclusive trips fast.

Currently there are only two afternoon tea tours planned in Edinburgh this year on May 29 and July 15 but both are sold out already.

Northern Belle say the afternoon tea tour offers passengers an ‘experience to treasure.’

A spokesperson explains: “Let the pace of life slow as you gaze at the scenery and enjoy the delights of travel from a bygone era while enjoying a traditional afternoon tea.

“Stretch your legs and take a stroll through the carriages, each of which is named after a British stately home or castle.

"Marvel at the different designs and attention to detail in each, or browse the train boutique for unique gifts.

“An experience to treasure, this makes the perfect treat or celebration gift.”

The train is due to stop off at Edinburgh this week as part of one of its new ‘land cruises.’

For around £5000 passengers can travel across the UK and sleep in luxury hotels, whilst enjoying treats like a private concert by the opera singer Katherine Jenkins along the way.
