Edinburgh volunteers urgently needed to temporarily home guide dogs in training

Guide Dogs Scotland are appealing for volunteers in Edinburgh to open their doors to some very clever canines.

The organisation, which dates back to the 1931, breeds and trains specially-trained dogs for blind and partially sighted people.

Guide Dogs has helped over 29,000 people and are the world's largest breeder and trainer of working dogs - but they need your help.

They need temporary homes for "buddy dogs" in training in the Edinburgh area, who will stay with you for up to two months.

Buddy dogs are trained to work with children and young people who have a vision impairment. As well as being a mobility aid, they are a source of friendship and are there to help the kids build confidence.

In an appeal on Facebook, Guide Dogs Scotland said: "Temporary homes needed for our dogs!

"We’re looking for volunteers in the Edinburgh area to board our dogs, for up to two months, while they are in the process of becoming buddy dogs.

"Our dogs mustn't be left at home for longer than three hours in any 24-hour period, so this role would require someone to be at home for most of the day."

If you’re interested, Guide Dogs are holding an information session on Thursday 23 January at their Edinburgh office on 24 St John's Road, EH12 6NZ.

You must book your place at the session beforehand by sending an email to Emma.Murton@guidedogs.org.uk or calling 0345 143 0205.
