Edinburgh volunteers called out to Halloween carnage as huge club queues spotted

A huge number of partygoers were spotted in Edinburgh on Saturday as they queued for parties and club nights across the city.

Hundreds of dressed-up locals were seen standing in the cold and rainy weather in order to get into Why Not nightclub as they celebrated Halloween.

With the city celebrating its first Halloween with minimal restrictions since 2019, Saturday night saw late night venues throughout the capital through large events to make up for it.

Despite Halloween falling on a Sunday this year, many venues had chosen to also throw themed nights on Saturday to allow everyone to get the chance to enjoy themselves.

Pictures taken outside Why Not on George Street showed huge crowds patiently waiting outside the Dome to make their way into the nightclub.

Earlier this month, clubs such as Why Not and other late night venues began to enforce the new Covid vaccine passport system under the latest Scottish Government rules.

Despite the law, which only allows those who are double vaccinated to enter, did not appear to deter locals from heading out, with hundreds seen waiting for the sold out 'Witch Project' event.

However, the busy turnout across the city also saw a number of emergency calls being made to organisations such as Street Assist, with volunteer teams attending 26 different calls throughout the night.

In addition to 22 call outs on Friday night, on Saturday the team, who offer first aid and assistance, also took three individuals to A&E to ease pressure on the ambulance services.

Similar turn outs are expected on Sunday night as clubs continue the celebrations, with WhyNot set to host a capacity 'Deadinburgh' night, and other venues such as The Liquid Rooms to run a FLY 'Spooktacular' rave.
