Edinburgh TV Festival 2008: BBC sweeps the board at channel of year awards

The BBC has scooped all five prizes in the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival 2008 Channel of the Year Awards, unveiled today, with three gongs for BBC1 and a brace for BBC3.

Best terrestrial channel: BBC1

Best non-terrestrial channel: BBC3 (shortlisted: Dave, E4, ITV2, BBC4 and Sky One1)

Terrestrial programme of the year: The Apprentice (Talkback Thames for BBC1)

Network and fast track choice award: Doctor Who (BBC Wales for BBC1)

The winners were decided by the MGEITF executive committee from a shortlist voted for by members of the public, in a YouGov poll earlier this year.
