Edinburgh travel resumes after two people tragically struck by trains

Two people were tragically struck by trains yesterday on different Edinburgh lines.

On Wednesday (December 9), Network Rail had reported that a person had been struck between both Edinburgh and Glasgow and Edinburgh and Dunbar.

The first was reported by Scotrail at around 4pm, with services then cancelled between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Shotts.

Speaking about the incident, they said: "Sadly, due to a person having been struck by a train between Bellshill and Shotts, our Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Shotts route is closed."

Later yesterday evening, a second person was also said to have been struck on the route between Edinburgh and Dunbar.

An alert was first created at around 10.30pm, with a further update to services issued at 1am this morning.

This had caused disruption to CrossCountry and LNER services between London and Edinburgh, however services will now be running normally between the city and Berwick Upon. Tweed.

Currently, there is no further information on the two accidents. at this time.
