Buses have been pictured queuing on George Street today with Edinburgh some locals wondering why their Princes Street bus hasn't shown up.
Westbound buses are being diverted away from Princes Street while Edinburgh City Council carries out tram repair works between Frederick Street and South Charlotte Street.
The tram works started on the evening of Monday, June 14, and will be carried out every night between 8pm and 5am until Friday, June 18 - with buses and traffic diverted in both directions.
However, parts on Princes Street were required to be closed down all day today (June 16) to finish work that can't be done overnight - with westbound buses diverted.
The diversion has confused some locals waiting for buses on Princes Street with the services 1 3 4 10 11 15 16 19 22 25 26 29 30 31 33 34 37 44 104 113 124 X7 all experiencing delays as they are diverted through George Street.
One local wrote on Twitter: "I know there is a diversion on Princess St, but why has that has cancelled two number 30s, three buses not turned up?"
Lothian buses responded: "Unfortunately, services have been affected due to the closure of Princes Street. Although the delays are outwith our control, I appreciate it is frustrating and do apologise for the inconvenience.
"Due to the significant delays, we have sent some buses via Queen Street rather than sit stationary in the traffic. If you are able to do so, you may want to go to the stop at the foot of Lothian Road. Please again accept my apologies for the delay and inconvenience."
Another local told Edinburgh Live: "All buses diverted along George Street after the council have already given half the road to hospitality seating. Folk were eating lunch at the time while buses pass the gazebos."
A Council spokesperson said: “We’ve worked with Edinburgh Trams to co-ordinate these works overnight to minimise disruption.
"Unfortunately not all of this can be carried out overnight and one day of work has been required. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Trams said:
“In co-operation with the Council, temporary diversions are in place to allow our contractors to carry out essential maintenance. To minimise disruption, and to keep the city moving, the majority of the work is being carried out overnight.”
