An Edinburgh tram was removed from service after a window was smashed earlier this evening.
The incident happened at the Saughton Tram Stop, with Edinburgh Trams confirming news of the incident around 7pm. They say the vehicle has been taken out of use for the time being.
This comes on the same night Lothian Buses were forced to suspend some routes after their vehicles were attacked in the Muirhouse area. Buses 14, 24, 27, 37 and 200 were all disrupted after an incident on Pennywell Road shortly before 7pm.
Police Scotland say they are conducting enquiries after a bus window was damaged on the route. A spokesperson said: "We were called around 6.54pm on Wednesday, 24 March, to a report of a bus window being damaged in the Pennywell Road area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
There have been numerous instances of public transport being attacked in recent weeks.
Last Wednesday Lothian Buses scrapped all evening services for the safety of their staff and customers after their vehicles came under repeated attack.
Unite Regional Industrial Officer Lyn Turner told Edinburgh Live that it was only a matter of time before we see a fatality on the roads caused by this behaviour. He said bus drivers are frightened to go to their work as a result.
Edinburgh police have been carrying out patrols in communities across the city in a bid to deter anti-social and reckless behaviour in recent weeks.
Tonight they tweeted: "Your officers have been carrying out joint community patrols with staff from Lothian Buses this evening. Together we are committed to keeping our communities safe. You can help by speaking to young people under your care about the dangers of throwing objects at buses."
