Edinburgh Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh apologises after sweary rant on live TV

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has had to apologise after he swore live on Sky News yesterday morning while discussing his new documentary called Offended.

The Edinburgh born writer appeared alongside Kay Burley to speak about the new show when he branded a breed of politicians “racist a*******s”, reports the Daily Record.

Sky presenter Kay Burley told Irvine Welsh off for the sweary rant and warned that he was 'going to get her in trouble.'

The author later took to Twitter to issue an apology for his choice of word, penning: "Thank you @SkyNews for letting me talk about the Offended documentary on @SkyArts tonight.

"I’m sorry about the ‘a*******’ comment but other than that I tried to be on my best behaviour."

The 62-year-olds' documentary exploring attitudes towards being offended aired last night on Sky Arts.
