Edinburgh train services severely disrupted after person is struck by train

Train services have been severely impacted in Edinburgh after a person was struck by a train in East Lothian.

Scotrail confirmed the incident between Prestonpans and North Berwick at around 5.30pm on Friday evening.

Daily Record's sister title Edinburgh Live is reporting that emergency services were attending to the person at Longniddry.

Emergency services declared the track to be safe at around 8.45pm on Friday.

A spokesperson said: "Due to the length of this incident we have heavy delays and services out of position on this line of route, we are working hard to get services back on schedule."

The incident is still having a significant impact on services heading in and out of the capital this evening.

A number of services from Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness have been delayed or cancelled as a result of the incident.

The condition of the person struck by the train remains unknown.

British Transport Police have been approached for comment.
