Edinburgh train grinds to a halt as reckless pair pull emergency brake 'prank'

An Edinburgh train had ground to a halt on Wednesday after the emergency brake was pulled as a 'prank'

Passengers on board the evening service from Edinburgh Waverley to Helensburgh Central had seen delays after the handle was put into use.

Pulled in the Newbridge area of Edinburgh, the ScotRail carriages were stopped from around 7pm for roughly 45 minutes while the situation was assessed.

Confirmed to have been pulled in an "improper use", one passenger on board the service had claimed that the incident had been caused by two young men who had "decided to pull the cord and jump off the train."

The emergency stop had caused a backlog of delays, with those expecting the service at Glasgow Queen Street low level subject to a longer wait.
