Edinburgh train chaos as ScotRail investigate 'track defect' between Uphall and Edinburgh Park

There is major train disruption this morning (July 13) as Scotrail is dealing with a “suspected track defect” between Uphall and Edinburgh Park.

A number of services have been disrupted, with all trains between Uphall and Edinburgh Park currently cancelled.

Trains from Helensburgh to Edinburgh via Bathgate are now terminating and starting back from Bathgate, while services from Milngavie to Edinburgh via Bathgate will also terminate and start back from Bathgate.

Due to the defect, ScotRail is not able to serve Livingston North and Uphall stations during this time.

Anyone affected by the disruption can use their rail tickets on Edinburgh trams between Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and St Andrews Square.

There will also be a bus replacement device between Bathgate and Edinburgh Park.

A statement from Network Rail statement said: “We're responding to reports of a suspected track defect in the Uphall area.

“Our staff are heading to the site and will shortly be carrying out a safety inspection of the track. Please follow @ScotRail for service updates."

ScotRail added: "Due to a safety inspection of the track between Uphall and Edinburgh Park all lines are currently closed."
