Edinburgh traffic watches as car flips over during heavy flash flooding

A main Edinburgh road was closed off on Sunday evening after a car flipped onto its side.

The capital was subject to a number of travel issues on July 4 after heavy flash flooding took place during a thunderstorm, with almost all parts of the city affected.

The freak weather incident had seen emergency services called out to Queensferry Road after the vehicle was uprooted while in traffic.

Arriving at the scene at around 6pm, the black car was pictured lying on its left side as cars queued to get past on the main Edinburgh road.

It was temporarily closed in both directions at Dreghorn due to a high volume of water on the roadway with motorists warned to find another route, reports the Record.

The thoroughfare has since reopened fully, however drivers are being urged to take care on Monday morning due to increased surface water.

Flash flooding and disruptions had come on extremely quickly at around 5pm on Sunday (July 4), with a yellow weather warning only ending in the early hours of Monday morning.

However, heavy rain is still expected throughout to continue throughout Monday as a clear up operation gets underway to assess the damage from the storm.
