Edinburgh tourists desperate to find lost teddy that was bought by dead dad

A mum who was visiting the Scottish capital with her family has pleaded with the public to help find her daughter's lost stuffed bunny rabbit.

Sara Jane Wildsmith says that the teddy belongs to her young daughter Laila, 11, and was bought for her by her father five years ago.

Sadly Sara’s husband, Laila’s father, died by suicide in 2019 and the teddy is a huge comfort to the young girl as well as a way to remember her dad.

They believe that they may have lost the stuffed rabbit whilst walking for a tram in the city centre on the afternoon of Friday October 28.

Sara says that both Laila and her are desperate for the sentimental gift to be found and brought home to Solihull.

She is asking for help from Edinburgh’s businesses, residents and staff members on public transport to keep an eye out for the toy and says that it would be amazing if it could be reunited with Laila.

It is a grey bunny with a pink nose, beige feet with orange spots with the same design being found under the ears.

On the loss and what the teddy means to her family, she said: “My late husband passed away in May 2019 and bought this teddy bear from pets at home about five years ago for her.

“Laila called her bunny ‘daddy’ and she takes it everywhere she goes.

“We went to Edinburgh for a holiday with her brother and brother's girlfriend for a short mid-week break and we all had a fabulous time.

“But on Friday October 28 we were set to travel back home. We went to All Bar One for a late brunch.

“We left the restaurant at around 1:00pm and walked down the hill towards the Scottish National Gallery and we crossed the road to wait for the tram to take us back to the airport.

“We are not 100 per cent sure where Laila lost her ‘daddy’ but we think it could have been walking to get the tram.

“We contacted the tram company straight away and they sent out messages to all teams instantly, they were extremely helpful but nothing has been found as of yet.

“The last three years since we lost my husband to suicide have been extremely hard for my children and I.

“Laila losing her teddy that her daddy bought her is heartbreaking. She hasn’t stopped crying.

“She said she really misses her teddy and that her teddy means everything to her, she said she loves it more than anything in the world.

“She said she’ll never have a daddy who is her best friend who she can do things with and that he can’t watch her grow up.

“It would be the most amazing moment if Lailas teddy was found.”

Anyone with any information relating to the teddy has been asked to contact Sara through her FB profile here.
