Edinburgh today: tram ideas, a Holyrood hang up and midnight bins

Good morning Edinburgh.

There was a fair amount of interest in our coverage of Monday's emergency council meeting on the future of the trams project.

Today's Scotsman reports that council leader Jenny Dawe has said a private finance initiative is among options being explored to complete the project. The council's transport leader Gordon Mackenzie tells the paper he understands it could cost "substantially more than £600m" to reach St Andrew Square.

Someone has written in to the Broughton Spurtle suggesting the council should open the existing line and run trams up and down Princes Street until the rest of the line is completed.
