Edinburgh today - surveys of council houses and wind turbines

Good morning Edinburgh!

The debate over the proposed airport drop-off fee shows no sign of dying off after Edinburgh Airport's managing director Gordon Dewar issued an open letter, reported in the Evening News, addressed "to all passengers, Edinburgh businesses, community groups and politicians" - setting out the case for customers to make a "modest contribution" in return for tens of millions of pounds of investment. The Scotsman
reports that the council is to carry out a year-long survey of social housing to determine how many homes and flats are currently fit for purpose at a cost of £900,000 .
Planning Aid for Scotland (PAS), has announced a programme of events and will be hosting a high-profile event at the Scottish Parliament's Festival of Politics this August, to debate the involvement of people in planning.

Portobello based community group PEDAL have received a £72,000 boost from the Scottish Government to conduct a detailed feasibility study, and pay for associated legal and planning costs relating to the construction of a 47.5m tall wind turbine on the Western part of the Portobello promenade towards Seafield, posts GreenerLeith.
