Edinburgh today: Japan condolence book and The Shore facelift

A book of condolence is open for signing at the Japanese Consulate at 2 Melville Crescent from 9.30am to 5pm. External affairs minister Fiona Hyslop was among the first to sign it. She said:

"The situation in Japan is serious and fast-moving. The death and devastation wrought by the earthquake and tsunami are truly terrible. Our thoughts are with the people of Japan, and with those in Scotland and around the world who are desperately concerned about loved ones caught up in this catastrophe."

Plans for a facelift of The Shore have been given a £350,000 boost. Alastair Tibbitt has been following the story for a while. Read his report on STV Local.
