Edinburgh to see plans for huge housing and office development next to airport

New plans are to be submitted to Edinburgh Council over a huge development that will lie out next to the airport.

Next week, council officials are due to discuss the initial proposal before concrete plans for the area are submitted for approval.

The site, lying north of Glasgow Road, could see a number of different units constructed behind the Edinburgh Tram Depot and not too far from the airport runway.

According to a report from the Development Management Sub-Committe, the site plans will include offices, a general industrial space, a flat development and a "storage or distribution" space.

As well as active travel routes, there is also to be landscaped areas surrounding the buildings.

Currently, the plans are yet to be formally submitted, however a meeting of officials on Wednesday (June 23) is due to discuss any potential issues with the proposal.

This includes analysing the size and usage of the development, as well as its impact on the surrounding area.

So far, the report has highlighted questions over whether the location would be advisable due to the nearby Gogar roundabout and the linking roads that would need to be created.

A small section of the site is also reported to be green belt land, with officials to also understand id the design will be suitable for the historic and arable landscape nearby.
