Edinburgh to Glasgow trains cancelled this Sunday over pay dispute strike

Direct trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow will not operate in either direction on Sunday due to a combination of works and strike action.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) have held weekly strike action every Sunday for almost three months over a pay dispute with dutch operator Abellio and are soon to be joined by engineers following recent talks.

ScotRail announced no replacement bus service will be available in place of missing services, fully cutting off the rail link between Scotland’s two largest cities.

Those planning to travel on Sunday, September 5, have been urged to make alternative arrangements.

All services from Glasgow to the East coast will terminate at Bathgate.

ScotRail previously warned it was facing "financial crisis" arguing it was "completely wrong" for industrial action to be taken.

The union announced last week that 80 per cent of conductors, cleaners and ticket inspectors had voted to continue the strike action until at least Sunday, October, 17.

Speaking last month, RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: "It the sheer pig-headed intransigence of Abellio and Transport Scotland which has forced us to continue this campaign of industrial action.

"I want to congratulate our members who have stood firm for over six months in this fight for pay justice and equality in the face of outrageous provocation from the employer.

"That fight continues and it is now down to Scotrail and their political masters to take this key group of staff seriously, to stop snubbing talks and to get round the table with the union to negotiate a fair and just settlement."
