Edinburgh to get more student flats as plans for two major developments move forward

Edinburgh looks set to get more student flats as plans for two major developments in the Gorgie area move forward.

New accommodation will be created in the city as part of a £35million investment.

A seven-storey development on Westfield Road, near Murrayfield Stadium, will provide almost 400 beds. This will cost more than £20million. It was previously reported that this building will contain study rooms, a games area, a gym and a cinema.

Another £14.4million development will be created on Gorgie Road, delivering 249 beds. These are both due to be completed in mid-2022.

It has now been announced that construction company GRAHAM will deliver these developments on behalf of Watkin Jones, and their Regional Managing Director Gary Holmes says the properties will deliver everything students would expect from a modern facility.

He said: “These projects further bolster our strong position in the student accommodation and build-to-rent sectors. The facilities we are constructing for Watkins Jones will provide high quality student accommodation, incorporating the full range of lifestyle and amenity facilities which today’s students expect.”
