Edinburgh to be hit with mid-week heatwave with temperatures reaching 21 degrees

Edinburgh is set to be hit with a heatwave on Thursday, just days after Monday's scorching temperatures, with the summer weather finally looking like its on its way.

Temperatures on Thursday, June 23, are set to hit 21 degrees in the capital, that's according to the Met Office.

On Monday, the weather within the city was definitely reminiscent of summer last year, albeit a month later than we'd all have hoped for.

With not many days this year so far leading to locals whipping out the factor 50, things could soon be about to change if the forecast stays the same until Thursday.

Between 4pm-7pm, temperatures are set to be at their highest, but the humidity is expected to last into the night - maybe getting that electric fan down from the loft would be a smart idea now.

Humidity levels are on course to reach beyond 60 per cent, with wind speeds of 20mph.

The Met Office say that the forecast from Thursday to Saturday is looking like "another warm day on Thursday with a lot of sunshine, cloudier on Friday with some showers developing and a risk of these turning heavy. Bright with a few showers Saturday."

They add that on Wednesday, June 22, temperatures are not to exceed 18 degrees, which is still warmer than we've experienced this year so far, but Thursday is when summer begins.

Moving forward and onto the upcoming weekends, the Met Office predict that the typical Scottish weather is set to return, followed by sunny spells, with possible thunder. Everything but snow, then.

Forecasters predict: "A generally unsettled start to the period as a band of potentially heavy rain continues to move east across the UK on Saturday. This is followed by sunny spells and showers, some heavy and possibly thundery.

"Sunny spells and showers, the latter being most frequent in the north, continue to dominate into the start of next week. It may be rather windy at times, especially in the north and west. Near normal or rather cool temperatures are expected. Further into the period, showers are likely to continue, being most prevalent initially in the north and west, and later in the north and east.

"Southern parts will probably see more in the way of dry weather. Conditions look to become more settled by the start of July as high pressure builds."
