Edinburgh to Aberdeen train services resume after sinkhole appeared under tracks

Overnight repairs have been carried out on a sinkhole which appeared underneath a railing track.

Network rail said the section of line running though Leuchars in Fife would reopen as planned on Tuesday morning.

Engineers filled the metre-deep sinkhole with stones, having earlier said three tonnes would be needed to fix the collapse.

Network Rail tweeted: "We've completed repairs to the track at Leuchars, and the line will open as planned this morning. Thanks for your patience."

The sinkhole was spotted on Monday morning, causing some rail services to be suspended .

ScotRail , LNER and CrossCountry services were affected, as was the Caledonian Sleeper.
